The DSL is contactable Monday to Friday between 9am and 5pm and Saturday morning (DDSL**) between 9am and 1pm during school term times. Their email address and phone number will not be monitored during the school holidays. Therefore, if you need to discuss a safeguarding concern whilst they are uncontactable, please refer to Central Bedfordshire Council’s child protection webpage.

The role of Inspiring Music’s Designated and deputy Safeguarding Lead is to take lead responsibility for safeguarding and child protection within music centre’s and to be available during school and music centre hours. to discuss safeguarding concerns.

The designated safeguarding lead will:

  • provide advice and guidance for staff on safeguarding and child protection issues and making referrals

  • ensure Inspiring Music’s safeguarding and child protection policies are up to date and consistent with Central Bedfordshire Council’s Safeguarding Children policies and that policies are reviewed annually

  • ensure all staff, tutors, including volunteers and consultants, are aware of and understand policies and procedures and are able to implement them

  • attend regular training in order to keep up to date with new policy, emerging issues and local safeguarding and child protection procedures and working practices

  • provide regular updates received from Central Bedfordshire Council to all staff members and on any changes in safeguarding or child protection legislation (updated information will be provided by Central Bedfordshire Council at the designated teachers meeting and designated safeguarding leads will be responsible for communicating this information to staff immediately; they may decide to hold workshops or discuss in staff meetings)

  • have an awareness of those children who may be in need, young carers and children who have special educational needs

  • oversee child protection systems within the music centres

  • ensure staff, including volunteers and consultants, receive appropriate safeguarding and child protection

  • ensure parents have access to policies and procedures; 

Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO)

The LADO (also known in Central Bedfordshire as the Allegations Manager) oversees investigations into allegations and concerns against adults who work with children and young people in both a paid and voluntary capacity.

The criteria for LADO intervention is where the behaviour of an adult has resulted in a child being harmed or at risk of harm; a criminal offence may have been committed or the behaviour of the adult may indicate unsuitability to work with children.
