Something for Summer 2024: A celebration of young talent

School children playing instruments

This year’s Something for Summer events were a resounding success, celebrating the musical talents of students from schools across Central Bedfordshire. Held at The Grove Theatre and the Shuttleworth Collection, the event featured four evenings of remarkable performances. Students sang their hearts out, accompanied by a live band and guest instrumentalists.

On Monday 1 and Tuesday 2 July at The Grove Theatre we enjoyed performances from Charlton Lower School, Southcott Lower School, Hockliffe Lower School, Hadrian Academy, Harlington Lower School, Sundon Lower Schools, Watling Lower School, Eversholt Lower School, and St Christopher’s Academy.

Followed on Wednesday 3 and Thursday 4 July at Shuttleworth by performances from Robert Peel Primary School, St Andrews CofW VC Lower School, Haynes Lower School, Labrurnum Primary School, Aspley Guise, Stondon Lower School, Shefford Lower School, Flitwich Lower Schools, Silsoe CofE VC Lower School, Ramsey Manor Lower School, and Potton Primary School.

Feedback from schools

  • "We were so proud of the children and everyone had a wonderful time. This event is always such a joy to be part of, primarily because we all have the privilege of working with such talented professionals who inspire and delight our children, providing them with a deeply memorable experience." - Julie Ashwell, (Music Lead) Silsoe Lower School

  • "Feedback from parents has been universally positive - they loved it!" - Ben Bardell (Headteacher), Laburnum Primary School

  • "The kids really enjoyed it." - Rob Cooke (Headteacher), Watling Lower School

  • "It was a lovely afternoon/evening and all of our children really enjoyed performing." - Miss Bill (Headteacher), Chalton Lower School

  • "The whole event was extremely well organised and a joy to watch." - Aoife Greaves (Headteacher), Hockliffe Lower School.

This festival was a wonderful opportunity for students to shine and create unforgettable memories. Thank you to all of the students involved.

Planning for next year's festival is already underway. In the meantime, we have Music Centre concerts, Fiddle Fiestas, and end-of-school concerts coming up.
